ASSURANCE OF SALVATION

                                               1John 5:13-21
Greetings to you all! I hope you are enjoying the long weekend and the lovely weather.

Some of you may have made a commitment or said the sinners’ prayer, to avail yourselves of the wonderful love and grace packaged by God and delivered to mankind through His son and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. You have to believe it and confess it (Romans10:9-10). Continue in prayer, praise and thanks-giving (Colossians 1:12-13). That assurance of salvation is only conveyed by the Holy Ghost. You will know it.

The Scriptures clearly teach that it is possible to know whether you are saved or not.  Based on the principles of God’s Word, you will know that Christ is now in you and that a change has taken place, and you are now a child of the kingdom of God. You now begin to desire to please God and do His will. Hence, you are delivered from wilfully desiring to do evil or disobey God’s Word. That was why John the Baptist, the fore runner of Christ preached, ‘And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand’ (Matthew 3:2).
When Jesus started His ministry, He called out first, to the fihermen, the first disciples, saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel…’ (Mark 1:15-20). I believe the world would have been a better place if all mankind believed God. So be assured, If God is in control of your life you will definitely know, and your life and existence will find meaning in fulfilling the Will of God on earth. Then will you begin to enjoy a new realisation of God’s creation, God’s will, and sovereign power. You will begin to experience the following:

Christ in your hearts. (Colossians1:27; 1John 5:12)
The witness of the word of God (1John 5:10-11)
God answers your prayers (John 5:14, 15; 14:14)
The Scriptures become easier to understand (1John 5:20)
You now keep His commandments (2Corinthians 5:17; John 15: 10; 1John 5:18)
Love of the brethren (1John 3:14)
There is inner witness of the Holy Spirit in you. (Romans 8:16)

Paul testifies of an inner confidence of the keeping power of God in Salvation (2Timothy 1:12)

For these reasons, believers’ faith and strength at all times, especially in times of difficulties, anchor unto the stronghold in God.
